Field Recording Loveliness… The 78 Project

The 78 Project are a team of individuals recreating the sound of original 78 discs by recording artists on the fantastic looking Presto direct-to-disc acetate recorder. I want one! So far the gang (film-maker Alex Steyermark and Lavinia Jones Wright) have been hauling their vintage equipment – which creates a single slab of playable acetate – to strange and wonderful New York locations to record vintage sympethetic artists such as death gospel artist Adam Arcuragi and folk legend Loudon Wainwright III. The whole process and the equipment itself is wonderful. (via BBC)
